This is another post in the “_ More _” Series. Every Friday I will encourage to do awesome things to improve your well being and others! This week I want you to leave a comment with a link to your favorite charity or information about a cause that is important to you.

Hi and welcome to Cirquedumot, I cover all sorts of topics relevant to writers, bloggers, and those who give a darn about creating quality stuff without spending all day doing a task! If you like what you read…hey subscribe!

Humboldt State’s Grand Vision and a Simple Truth

I am always very grateful that I made the switch from UC Irvine to Humboldt State. At Humboldt I got a thorough education in topics surrounding social justice. I was encouraged to talk openly about myself and the causes that I support. Most importantly, I was encouraged to take action.

This is how I became a member of the residence life staff. Building community within the halls by making them a safe and inclusive space for the students.

Humboldt was rather ambitious with its Res Life Vision statement. Yep, they told us that they wanted to be an internationally recognized community.

Residence Life will be an internationally recognized community model impacting socially just education, global citizenship, and environmental sustainability.

I often felt that I had a lot riding on my shoulders, but I realized a simple truth.

“You Can Change the World in a Tiny Way”

Each of us can impact the world in our own way, just by being you.

What Jonathon Coulton Taught Me about Life

Just to warn you the chorus does contain an NSFW word

Jonathon Coulton wrote a very math nerd friendly song called Mandelbrot Set. The allusion here is that fractals make order out of chaos. If we view chaos as all the big bad in the world, than fractals are a metaphor that shows that we can make an impact on the system with actions individuals take in the real-world.

That gives me a lot of hope!

I do believe that we change the world by changing ourselves, by walking our talk. Leading by example. Doing unto others as they would like to be treated and not according to how we perceive their needs. (Hey if you don’t know, just ask.)

Friendship is a communicable disease

I have a quote on my Twitter bio at the moment that is a little ambigious. Thought I would explain in more depth what I mean.

“Friendship is a communicable disease, spread the infection.”

This is why changing ourselves matters, because everyday we deal with people! We do literally infect others with our attitudes, beliefs, and actions. This can be as positive or as negative as we make those experiences.

You have a deep impact on others around you, if you take this on as a responsibility than you really can change the world through every interaction you have.

A List of Organizations that I Support

Disclosure: This represents my own views and not those of my clients or employers.

This week, I would love it if you leave a comment. Give me a link to a cause that you support. You don’t need to give details, just let the world know what matters to you. I would love this to became a thread that people can go back to and learn more.

Here is my list:

Active Minds- Mental Health Advocacy at the College Level. (So important!)

Jed Foundation- Mental Health Advocacy for Young Adults.

Creative Commons- Supporting open collaboration and an alternative to copyright on the web.

FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture- Transforming rape culture into a culture of consent.

Blankets for Boston- Set up by friend Margie Clayman. Their mission statement from Facebook, “Our goal is to make 1000 comfort blankets for the victims, victims’ families, and first responders of the Boston Marathon bombings…”

The Quest 2 Matter- Based on Angela Maiers Ted talk, this initiative is giving students the power to think entrpreunally and solve the problems that break their heart. They only have a few more days to go with their Indiegogo campaign and haven’t reached full funding!

Your Turn, share your list

A hand that offers care and security.
